Slash privacy policy

Effective date: September 24, 2026

This policy describes Slash — Emoji Shortcuts for Instagram, a browser extension that helps you find and insert emojis into Instagram web message drafts.

Information processed on your device

Slash temporarily reads the text and cursor position in a supported message editor to detect a slash query, search the bundled emoji list, and replace the query with the emoji you select. This processing happens locally in your browser. Message text and slash queries are not saved by Slash or transmitted to its developer or any other party.

Information saved on your device

Slash uses Chrome's extension-local storage to save emoji favorites, their order, and per-emoji insertion counts. Insertion counts help rank search results. These preferences remain in your browser profile; Slash does not use Chrome storage sync or send them to a server.

You can remove individual favorites in the picker. Removing the extension clears its extension-local data. Reinstalling it starts with the default preferences.

Collection, sharing, and tracking

Slash does not collect data off your device, sell or share personal data, run analytics, use advertising trackers, or load remotely hosted executable code. It has no developer-operated account system or backend. It does not request access to your browser history, cookies, contacts, camera, microphone, or location.

Slash uses data only to provide its emoji picker and local preferences, in compliance with the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including its Limited Use requirements. It does not use data for advertising, creditworthiness, or lending.

Permissions

Instagram and Chrome

Instagram continues to process the messages you send under its own policies. Chrome and the Chrome Web Store may process installation and store activity under Google's policies. This policy describes the Slash extension; it does not replace those services' policies or describe a separately hosted website.

Changes

If Slash's data practices change, this policy will be updated before the relevant extension release, with a revised effective date.

Slash is independent and is not affiliated with Instagram or Meta.
